What is the Waterfront Master Plan?The master plan will identify opportunities to enhance boating on the lake, provide a safe harbor during storm events, and support additional economic activity in the City. The final product will be a preferred development plan for the area shown on the project map.

What will the Waterfront Master Plan include?This will depend on public input and a market analysis that will identify types of uses this area may support. When complete, the master plan will include a development concept, an implementation strategy, and potential funding options.

Will there be development on the waterfront?This will depend on the market analysis. The purpose of this master plan is to improve access to the waterfront and enhance its usability. It is anticipated there will be some type of development, such as a restaurant or ship’s store however it is not yet known what other type of development may be supported by the market analysis.

Why is this being done?This master plan is being developed as a first step in enhancing boating access on the lake, providing a safe harbor during storm events, and to support additional economic activity in the City.

When will this happen?The master plan study has now begun. It is anticipated to be complete by the fall of 2022. Any future development and physical changes to the waterfront area will be dependent upon funding. At this time, there are no funding sources allocated to develop the waterfront. The master plan will be the first of several steps.

When will it be done?The master plan is anticipated to be complete in late summer or early fall 2022.

Who is paying for this plan?The master plan is being funded through a grant secured by the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council from the Florida Boating Improvement Program.

Is this going to change the marina?Currently, we do not know. The purpose of the mast plan is to improve access to the waterfront. There may or may not be an expansion or modification to the marina at some time in the future.

Is the waterfront going to become private?No. The waterfront property is leased by the City of Clewiston from the South Florida Water Management District and that will remain public. A portion of the study area does include private property. At some time in the future there may be development on the private property that may or may not be available for public use.

Will this result in increased costs or fees for users and residents?Funding options will be evaluated after the master plan has been developed.

Is the waterfront going to be closed during the study?No. This is a planning process only.

Are we going to lose boat access?No.

Can we still use the trail?Yes.
